Climate Change Changing the Color of the Oceans

Image
In this link, here National Geographic talks about how certain phytoplankton (more commonly known as algae) may change the color of the oceans if Global Warming continues unchecked. In that article, and several more that I read, blue regions, such as the subtropics, will become even more blue, as a result of less phytoplankton, Ocean water that is currently greener, such as water that is near the poles, may turn even more green, due to warmer temperatures creating larger blooms of more diverse phytoplankton.  Phytoplankton in the  ocean are making the colors more vibrant . One study says that more than 50 percent of the ocean water will experience the change in color by the year 2100. Even though this is a big problem and  a warning of more problems to come, I kind of think this would be cool to see, though I don't want to pay such a big price for it. If some of the oceans now are such brilliant shades of blue and green, what would it look like if th...

Global Warming: What it is and How it Affects Me.

Over the last few years, I have become very aware of a problem that we call Global Warming or Climate  Change.  It is a pretty big deal in my house, being mentioned in the form of dinner conversations, news articles,  or just actual research. Each time it is mentioned, it seems to have become more and more of a problem.  Since I have relocated up to the North, the idea of the danger of Global Warming seems to have  lessened a bit. In my eyes, it seems as though the effects aren't as obvious as they were before. In New Mexico, it was plain to see that something was going wrong, each summer was hotter then the last, the Rio Grande, (the river that runs through Albuquerque) was getting smaller and everything was  loosing it's shades of green and turning into more of a dusty brown.  The Rio Grande, with the Sandia Mountains in the background There were many more effects that were plain to see, but those are only the ones I can think of ...

Global Warming: What We Can Do

For my third blog post, I decided to find a list of things that regular people can help stop Global Warming and add my own thoughts to each section and say how I completed or did not complete each section. I created my list from several diffrent sites, including the David Suzuki Foundation ( here ) and the Scientific American ( here ) Use efficient lighting CFLs (compact fluorescent lights) use four times less energy, and they last eight times longer. But special lights aren't the only things that are important for using efficient lighting. You can save so much power just by turning off the lights when you leave a room. I try to do this whenever I go somewhere, but one of the difficulties with sharing a room with someone else, is that most likely the moment I leave, someone goes in there and turns it back on. Drive Less Most humans have two appendages called legs which are used for walking. Sure they are also used for turning the pedals on a bike, or pushing the gas and ...
