Global Warming: What it is and How it Affects Me.
Over the last few years, I have become very aware of a problem that we call Global Warming or Climate
Change.
Change.
It is a pretty big deal in my house, being mentioned in the form of dinner conversations, news articles,
or just actual research. Each time it is mentioned, it seems to have become more and more of a
problem.
Since I have relocated up to the North, the idea of the danger of Global Warming seems to have
lessened a bit. In my eyes, it seems as though the effects aren't as obvious as they were before. In
New Mexico, it was plain to see that something was going wrong, each summer was hotter then the
last, the Rio Grande, (the river that runs through Albuquerque) was getting smaller and everything was
loosing it's shades of green and turning into more of a dusty brown.
There were many more effects that were plain to see, but those are only the ones I can think of off the
top of my head.

The actual definition for Global Warming is: “A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.”
That doesn't sound very scary to me. It sounds like someone is trying to downplay the danger by using big terms and words such as "gradual increase" and "generally attributed to".
If I had to write a definition for Global Warming, or Climate Change, I would say something like "When the temperature rise because of too much carbon dioxide and other pollutants in the air. Some of the other problems caused by the greenhouse effect are: More natural disasters,
the polar ice caps melting, the ocean heating up, and life as we know it changing."
the polar ice caps melting, the ocean heating up, and life as we know it changing."
Of course that might be a little to long and dramatic for a google definition, but I think it gets the point across.
The increased levels of carbon dioxide are mostly coming from the large uses of fossil fuels (such as
to power cars, run factories, and many other small and large things that add up to a this massive
problem. More of the things that are aiding Global Warming, include deforestation (See here) and
farming (plant farming leads to deforestation and animal farming leads to tons of methane being
released into the air).

As the problem grows, I have noticed that some people seem to be growing with it. Over the last
few years, people have been responsible for several very creative solutions that might be able to solve
some of the problems that stem from Global Warming. On the other hand, there are a lot more people
who just don't care how their actions affect the planet or the people around them.
